10 International Congress of The Polish Neuroscience Society

Welcome

Dear Friends,

We have the pleasure to invite you to participate the 10th International Congress of the Polish Neuroscience Society, which will be held at the University of Lodz, Poland, from September 21st to 24th, 2011.
Polish Neuroscience Society was established in 1991. The Society congresses, organized every two years, provide the forum for neuroscientists working on molecular, structural, and functional aspects of the nervous system. The approaching, 10th International Congress of the Polish Neuroscience Society will comprise plenary lectures, symposia, and poster sessions. All the Congress abstracts will be published in Acta Neurobiologiae Experimentalis, official journal of the Polish Neuroscience Society. The abstract book and Congress materials will be available on-line in the electronic version of the journal (www.ane.pl).
We are especially glad to host the Congress in our town. Lodz, with its history dating back to the 15th century, is the second largest city in Poland located in the very centre of the country. The town, called Polish Manchester, was the cradle of Polish textile industry. Owing to its favorable location in the vicinity of the Eastern market, the city became in 19th century the great industrial centre attracting thousands of Germans, Jews, Russians, and Poles, being for them the true “promised land”.
The most characteristic elements of the cityscape include the neo-Gothic factories, well preserved magnificent Art Nouveau and neo-Renaissance villas and palaces which have been changed into museums or seats of cultural and educational institutions. Since 1945 Lodz has been also a major academic centre in Poland with its six public higher education schools: the University of Lodz, Technical University, University of Medicine, Academy of Fine Arts, Academy of Music, and legendary Film School. Today the city is not only an important industrial and educational centre but also a cultural centre, which aspires to become the European Capitol of Culture in 2016.
The 10th International Congress of the Polish Neuroscience Society will be held in recently built University’s Law and Administration Campus, friendly to disabled persons, most modern academic building in Poland.
We hope that the Congress will provide all participants with an opportunity for not only presenting and discussing their recent scientific data but also for visiting attractive places in Lodz.
